Phase One iQ4 – Digital

So Much for Sunny Cali…

If you don’t know LA well, June Gloom is real. The entire month of June is basically dedicated to the gloominess of an oncoming storm that may or may not arrive. There’s no exact time, might be at the start of June, or a little later. Lucky for me, mid May was the ticket. Hoping for warm hued soft afternoon/evening light after a 6 hour flight from New York, Malibu painted me the following landscape, and I’m not upset about it either.

Cloud cover can either make or break a photograph. Cumulonimbus clouds are some of my favorite, large rain clouds of white and grey on verge of a pending storm. As fate would have it, these rolled in and pierced through the strato skyline for miles clouds that preceded them. Notice out how these chunky oncoming clouds balance out the sandy beach and rolling waves to complete our rule of thirds for this image.

While the month, or this moment, may have started out gloomy, this photograph is one of drama punctuated by puffy perfection. Clouded and Contrasted, a KARJAKA classic of LA, perfect for the drama of your dining room.
